GEO checklist: the essential checks before publishing
Before you publish a page, check whether AI engines can extract and cite it. This GEO checklist covers structure, content and structured data — in the order you check them. It takes 10 minutes and prevents the most common reasons a page never gets cited.
Quick checklist (short answer)
- Unique H1, identical to the page's question or topic.
- Short answer in the first 2–3 sentences, self-contained and quotable.
- Numbered lists for steps, bullets for arguments.
- At least one table with exact values (prices, specs, comparison).
- Valid JSON-LD: Article or FAQPage, plus BreadcrumbList.
- 2–3 internal links to pages in the same cluster.
The structure checks
- Every H2 announces exactly what the section contains — no vague marketing titles.
- Sentences are short and can be copied individually into an AI answer.
- The essential information is in text, not only in images or video.
- The page has an honest cons or counter-arguments section.
Table: check and where most pages fail
The GEO checklist at a glance
| Check | Common mistake |
|---|---|
| Short answer | Marketing intro with no definition |
| JSON-LD | Missing or invalid schema |
| Tables | Values only in images, non-extractable |
| Interlinking | The page is orphaned, with no cluster |
How 4buildsite helps
